Not only could Jocelyn live anywhere, she has chosen to follow her
calling from Los Angeles to New York, with stops in Portland and New
Orleans. Now she is back where she was born, and enjoying life -- particularly
savoring her granddaughter who is the fifth generation of her family
to attend the same grade school in Reno County.
An artist whose creations are sold around the world, Jocelyn was ready
for "calm,
quiet space" in which to live and work. "It's so peaceful here," she
says, "and as an artist, I find that inspiring." Then she adds, "But
the peace and quiet doesn't mean a lack of activities. There's plenty
to do here!"
Once Jocelyn made the decision to come back, her daughter's family moved
from southern California to Hutchinson, too, which extended the Woodson tradition
at Avenue A Elementary School.
Compared to the big city, Jocelyn appreciates the convenience of everything
being close. And she really enjoys the ambiance created by the distinctive
older buildings in downtown Hutchinson. "I like the spirit of the area," she
says. "The personality of the town is so welcoming." She cites several
instances of friends visiting her who were amazed by the friendliness. "People
here are always waving and speaking, whether they know each other or not."

Although schooled in fashion design -- and now also a practitioner of reiki
and reflexology -- Jocelyn has always had a love for creating greeting cards.
(Her mother still treasures some of Jocelyn's cards from those Avenue
A days.) Since 1987, she has had Constance Kaye, New York, as her agent.
Through that representation, Jocelyn has achieved international distribution
of her hand-painted greeting cards. She works in acrylic, using both traditional
methods as well as her own distinctive techniques.
Wherever you may live, you just could receive one of those delightful cards
that originated in Jocelyn's Reno County studio (located in a limestone-trimmed
home built by her grandfather.)
